Our vision is to revolutionise the scholarly publishing ecosystem and act as a catalyst for innovation, collaboration and knowledge dissemination. We aspire to a future where the global research community has unrestricted access to cutting-edge tools and services for the rapid and open-sharing of their work.

Our goal is to become the primary destination for scholar-led publishing by:

  • bringing platform and publishing costs to zero across the scholarly sector

  • providing best-in-class, modern, infrastructure for Preprints, Publish-Review-Curate (PRC), Diamond Open Access and all community driven publishing models

Kotahi's community and capacity-building initiatives foster a community of innovators. We seek to understand local requirements and offer hands-on training and knowledge sharing experiences. Through our publishing service partnerships we build, launch, and sustain our scholar-led communities. We empower individuals and teams, equipping them with the resources and skills necessary to drive positive change and succeed in their mission.

The scholar-led publishing platform we provide includes tools to broaden, diversify and modernise the ecosystem, delivering AI innovation in publishing, and implementing features that help with research integrity, data management, open science practices and operational efficiency. 

To make this a reality, we are establishing a new, independent non-profit, The Kotahi Foundation, to nurture sustainability and growth. Our primary focus is to foster a community of contributors, users, and partners who share a commitment to open science and transparent scholarly communication practices.
